My name is Hayley Roos and I am an A-level student studying Media Studies at Stanmore College. My exams are almost upon me and as part of them, I have to complete an independent critical research study of my choice. I have chosen to do one based on the representation of women in film. Having done a certain amount of research so far, I have found that your name has often come up in having created films which challenge the conventional representation of women. I was wondering which of your films you feel you have achieved this the most? and also why you have chosen to portray women in such a way? I was also wondering if you found it hard to communicate your ideas across to the audience, as we are now so conditioned to the hollywood representation that when it is challenged some people find it hard to understand. Would you say your films were very successful in terms of attracting large audiences, or do you feel that they attracted a niche audience?
