We were encouraged by Sally Potter's comments in the Guardian article this week where she says, "I think there is a growing appetite for films that don't flaunt their budgets, for a no-waste aesthetic, a sort of 'poor cinema'. Rage is skeletal, really; elemental. And so it goes back to the roots of the relationship between the audience and the actor."
Encouraging, at least, to us at Holler Presents who are trying to do the same thing. In fact, we just yesterday posted our "Amateur Theory Manifesto" [pronounced Ahma-TOUR (http://hollerpresents.com/manifesto.html)] and after a few experimental documentaries (http://www.vimeo.com/hollerpresents for a slightly bigger window than our site) -- one of which we would file under a sincere confession rather than false -- we are working on our first narrative using these elemental ideas. We're making our way back to Lumiere and friends where, as we say, "homemade is the most special effect."
We think this is the direction it's heading. Old is new again.
